Good evening. I already posted this in one of the threads but it is a bit hard to find given that two threads have already posted with much discussion taking place.
I was asked to share what I know about the incident. I fly with a group out of this area, however, we did not know the paramotor pilot. I was able to find out some of the details from connections at our church. The pilot was new to the sport. He had been flying for 30 days and preferred to fly on his own. I suspect this is why our group had not had an opportunity to meet him yet. He took off from the new park in Simonton with the intention of flying past his house to wave at his wife and two teenage children who are a few miles NE of the park. His wife was tracking him on the phone when suddenly his signal disappeared. His wife had still not been notified by the police as of early this afternoon.
Another church member said she was witness to the event as she was out walking in the area. She said the plane struck the paramotor. She heard some strange noises and the plane circled once before nosing into a dive and impacting the ground. She did not see the paramotor throw the reserve, however, we can see in the pic that it is was released intentionally or through the impact. The witness said that the paramotor was a little higher than I fly so we suspect he was around 500ft. The odd part is that his location is different from what was seen on the app and not in his planned route to go past his house. The altitude we are hearing locally is different from the last report ADS-B altitude from the plane and other local stories saying 5000 MSL. More to come in the investigation as we are very curious about altitude knowing the local flying area.
It was a beautiful morning today so both pilots had one heck of a view. Prayers for the families.
